Annne of Green Gables

Have you ever read or listened to a story about a little girl from orphanage who brought happiness and love in a small family? If you have not read that kind of book, try to read L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables. The story takes places at Green Gables which is a large old house in Avonlea, small village of Prince Edward island. L.M. Montgomery wrote other books about Anne, but Anne of Green Gables is the first and the most famous. People of all ages love Anne, the little orphan girl with red hair. And those are my reason for choosing this book for my book report.

The main character in the book is Anne Shirley. Anne was an orphan, she was eleven years old, thin, with red hair and she never stops talking. She came to Green Gables, Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert’s home. Matthew is a quiet man, even in the first time Matthew and Marilla did not want Anne but after that Anne is more than family for them. Mrs Spencer is the one who made a mistake in sending Anne. Mrs. Rachel Lynde is Cuthbert’s neighbor, she is kind true but one day she mocked Anne's hair. Diana Barry is the same age as Anne, she is Anne’s best friend in Avonlea. Gilbert Blythe is a new boy in school, he was tall, with brown hair, the girls liked him except Anne, because he was rude about Anne’s red hair.

The story started when Matthew and Marilla wanted a boy to help Matthew on the farm, then they heard about Mrs Spencer. She is getting a little girl from the orphanage. They asked her to bring a boy and leave him at the station. But there was a mistake, there was only one person at the station when Matthew was there, she is Anne Shirley. Anne bring happiness in Green Gables and Avonlea, so the Cuthbert’s can accepted her to live with them in Green Gables. In Avonlea she met Diana and they became best friend. At the Avonlea school she met Gilbert, who is rude about her hair. Anne does not want to be Gilbert’s friend. Then Anne continued her study in Queen’s College in Charlottetown, Gilbert went to Queen’s College too. Anne and Gilbert were the smartest students in the class. In the last examination Anne and Gilbert were the best students. Some days later Matthew was dead. Anne wanted to help Marilla, she will teach in school on Prince Edward Island. Actually Anne wanted to teach in Avonlea school but she heard Gilbert was going to teach there. Then Mrs Lynde tell her that Gilbert knew about Anne’s problem, and he let her teach in Avonlea school. Two days later Anne met Gilbert on the road, she said thanks very much and she is going to be Gilbert’s friend. And that is the new start of Anne Shirley and Gilbert Blythe.

This book is not only enjoyable to read as a beautiful romance story but this book also offers many moral values that can be learned, there are patience, honesty, loyalty, friendship and etc. The value that I think is most important and complex moral value is how to respect life. This value is well expressed in story when she has to be patient as an orphan girl and there is no one accepted her until Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert’s accepted her to be family in Green Gables. When Matthew is dead, She is loyal, she is going to teach in Avonlea school to help Marilla with Green Gables. She had a friendships with Diana and Gilbert althought in the first time she hated him cause he was by mocking Anne’s red hair.

I would certainly recommend this book to other readers. This book is wonderful and colourful of life. When you read this book, you can feel sadness, happiness, and love at the same time. After reading the book you will have a good thing of love in your life.
